The Central Marin Police Authority has recently received a Pharmaceutical Waste Container. The Pharmaceutical Waste Container have been placed in the front lobby of our Larkspur police station and in the downstairs front lobby of Town Hall in San Anselmo. It is designed for the public to have a safe place to discard old or unused medications.
Drop offs are available during the following hours:
San Anselmo: Monday-Thursday 8:30-12:00 & 1:00-3:00
Larkspur: 24/7, 365 days per year
When discarding pharmaceutical waste into the drop box, please follow the guidelines below:
- Remove pills and put into a clear plastic bag
- Dispose of pill containers - do not bring to a pharmacy. Make sure to remove all identifying information from the label on your prescription bottle (including liquids) and dispose. These containers are not recyclable
- Keep liquids, ointments, lotions, etc. in their original containers and place in a clear plastic bag
Acceptable: Prescription and over the counter medications, vitamins and supplements, medicated ointments, lotions, creams, oils, liquid medications in leak-proof containers, empty inhalers, and pet medication
Not Acceptable: IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, empty pill containers, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans, full inhalers
This program is not intended for professionally generated medical waste. It should be noted once an item is placed into the Pharmaceutical Waste Container, it cannot be recovered.
This program is anonymous and we will not be taking anyone’s information when they come to use the Pharmaceutical Waste Container.
